日本媒体报道了武磊是曾经上海上港时代的中国超级联赛得分王和年度最佳球员，他于2019年1月加盟西班牙人队。在同年3月打入了他转会后第一个西甲进球。在首个赛季中16次出场贡献了3粒进球。同时日媒也谈到他在西班牙人的第二个赛季中在巴塞罗那德比中攻入了一个进球，在49场正式比赛中攻入了8球。

日媒认为，目前中国在国家队和国内联赛层面中都处于低迷状态，武磊作为欧洲联赛中的中国第一进球手，在他回归之后，中国新人才的崛起可能需要一段时间。
